12:17 a.m.: assist other police department, Westfield State University, 577 Western Ave., WSU police request the use of a call for a person in protective custody, a cell monitor was provided;
12:34 a.m.: incapacitated person, Highland Avenue, a caller reports a barefoot young girl with cuts all over her knocked on her door before walking away on Highland Avenue, the responding officer reports he found a barefoot girl on Court Street with scratches on her arms and legs and the classic symptoms of alcohol intoxication, the girl was transported to the station for pickup by her parents;
1:12 a.m.: accident, West Road at Pochassic Road, a caller reports a vehicle stuck a guardrail but the operator has exited the vehicle and is moving around, the responding officer reports the operator reported no injury but appeared to be intoxicated, the man failed a field sobriety test, Steven J. Grimsley, 20, of 15 Norton St., was arrested for operating under the influence of liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, for being a person younger than the legal drinking age in possession of liquor and for speeding;
11:54 a.m.: larceny, Elm Street, a resident came to the station to report that his son’s bicycle was stolen on Tuesday while it was parked outside the library, the responding officer reports the complainant said that between 2-3:0 p.m. the locked bike was stolen;
1:32 p.m.: larceny, Cleveland Avenue, a resident came to the station to report that his son’s scooter was stolen, the responding officer reports the complainant said that the push scooter had been in the yard the night before about 8 p.m. and was found to be missing in the morning;
2:39 p.m.: vandalism, Powder Mil Village, 126 Union St., a caller reports a scratch was inflicted on the passenger door of his pickup truck overnight, the caller said that he does not require a formal report but wants the damage documented;
4:15 p.m.: fire, White Street, a patrol officer reports he was flagged down by a resident who reported smoke in the area, the officer reports he found a resident who had a backyard campfire, the officer advised the resident of the pertinent city ordinances and the resident extinguished the fire;
5:20 p.m.: suspicious activity, Whitney Playground, Shepard Street, officers report that they learned that the subject of outstanding warrants may be camping out in the woods, the officers report an unoccupied tent with two sleeping bags was found which was left intact, officers will check the tent again;
5:28 p.m.: vandalism, a caller reports a known person smashed her windows and is yelling at her, the responding officer reports the caller said that she is breaking up with her girlfriend and left the other woman’s property on her porch while she left the residence to avoid any confrontation, the woman said that she stayed within sight of her residence and saw her former girlfriend and a male party arrive and apparently engage in an argument, the caller said that she saw the man take a tire iron from his vehicle and smash the caller’s picture window, the caller reports she approached in her vehicle and the man started yelling at her and when he approached she became afraid for her safety and fled, the officer reports the man denied breaking the window , a criminal complaint for malicious destruction of property was filed;
5:28 p.m.: vandalism, Russell Road, a resident same to the station to report she was assaulted and her vehicle was damaged at a college aged party the night before, the responding officer reports the complainant said that she had been at a party where beer cans had been thrown around and she was accused of throwing one at another woman, the woman said that a disturbance ensued and when a friend attempted to intervene she was assaulted, the complainant said that she and her friend attempted to leave in her vehicle and a crowd of party goers damaged the car by punching it and jumping on it;
6:53 p.m.: found property, Grandmothers Garden, Smith Avenue a resident came to the station to report he found a backpack containing a laptop computer in the garden, the computer was held at the station for safe keeping;
7:13 p.m.: South Meadow Road, a resident came to he station with a damaged wallet he reported finding near the tobacco barns on South Meadow Road, the responding officer reports the shredded wallet was taken for safe keeping;
8:34 p.m.: fireworks, Security Manor, 47 Broad St., a patrol officer reports he heard the sound of fireworks and observed a Roman candle in operation in front of the Security Manor, the officer spoke with two persons walking away who were very apologetic and said that they only had the one device which had been expended, the two men were warned of the possible repercussions of their action;
9:35 p.m.: disturbance, Noble Hospital, 115 W. Silver St., a caller requests an officer for a disorderly patient, the responding officer reports he arrived to find two security employees with patient, a routine check revealed that the man was the subject of two outstanding warrants, Joshua A. William, 34, of Free Street, was arrested on t he warrants;
11:13 p.m.: disturbance, Church Street, a caller reports a large college aged party, the responding community policing supervisor reports a liquor law violation citation was issued.
