12:23 a.m.: motor vehicle violation Pochassic Street, a patrol officer reports he observed a vehicle operating at an excessive rate of speed and stopped the car, the operator’s license was found to have been suspended, citations for speeding and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license were filed, the vehicle was released at the scene to the registered owner;
8:36 a.m.: found property, North Elm Street, a Dunkin Donuts employee reports a customer left a wallet in the store, the owner was identified as a Pittsfield resident and was notified that police were holding the wallet for safe keeping;
12:58 p.m.: school investigation, Westfield Middle School North, 350 Southampton Road, a school resource officer reports he was advised of a pupil who was found to have brought a small pocket knife to school, the SRO reports the issue will be resolved by school authorities;
5:20 p.m.: fraud, Shepard Street, a resident came to the station to report an attempted scam, the responding officer reports the complainant said that she had offered an item for sale on-line and a putative purchaser sent a check greatly in excess of the purchase price and asked that seller refund him the difference, the officer reports the seller did not pursue the transaction;
5:40 p.m.: disturbance, Yale Street, a caller reports a physical altercation between tenants of a Broad Street apartment building, the responding officer reports two tenants who have a history of conflicts had been engaged in a religious discussion when the altercation arose, one tenant allegedly sidestepped the first time the other man charged at him and punched the man in the face the second time he charged at him, both parties were advised that they could seek criminal charges at Westfield District Court if they chose to.
11:08 p.m.: fire, South Broad Street, a caller reported a fire at a business, the responding firefighters report a trailer in a commercial parking lot was found to be on fire and the thermal imaging camera indicated that the fire was at the nose of the trailer, an employee advised the firefighters that the trailer contained pallets loaded with old automotive batteries, pallets were removed from the rear of the trailer and firefighters made a hole in the front of the trailer so they could direct water to the fire from both sides, the fire was extinguished.
