WESTFIELD – Even the rain failed to slow down Westfield Post 124’s attack.
Westfield’s recent offensive surge continued last night as Post 124 launched extra base hits like fireworks in a soggy 8-4 win over Aldenville Teddy Bear Pools in an American Legion Baseball game at Jachym Field.
Jeremy Tanguay (4 RBIs, run scored) and Joe Lubanski (2 RBIs) each hit doubles, and Adam Mayhew (RBI) and Kyle Murphy (2 runs) each collected triples to fuel Westfield’s attack. Nate Barnes scattered eight hits and struck out eight batters, but more importantly, gave Post 124’s bullpen a rest by pitching a complete game.
Westfield (4-1) fell behind by one run in each of the first two innings, tying it up both times in the home half.
In the first inning, Mayhew hit a ringing triple to score Tanguay who reached on a walk. In the second, Rob Sullivan walked, advanced to second on a passed ball, moved to third on a sac-fly, and scored on a ground out.
In the third, shots were heard ‘round the block as Murphy launched a triple to deep right-center field and Lubanski doubled in two runs to make it 5-2. Tanguay also had an RBI hit in the inning.
Westfield broke it open in the fourth.
Evan Moorhouse, Dan Jacques, and Murphy singled to load the bases for Post 124. Then Tanguay hit a bases-clearing double to make it 8-3.
Westfield next plays at Ludlow Sunday at Whitney Park at 1:30 p.m.
