Post 124 Pitching Powers DH Sweep

WESTFIELD – After a week of Pioneer Valley rain postponed three games, Westfield Post 124 continued its season on the road Father’s Day and extended its undefeated season by sweeping a doubleheader at Agawam and then at Belchertown.
Despite potential pitching depth concerns to start the season, both starting pitchers delivered complete 7-inning performances to save the bullpen and lift Westfield to 9-2 and 6-1 wins to improve to 3-0 early in the summer.
Post 124 started the day by making up Thursday’s game against neighboring Agawam. Despite the 10 a.m. start time, the offense got off to a fast start, posting single runs in each of the first two runs before piling on and extending the lead.
Rob Sullivan tallied four Runs Batted In, while Tim Donahue drove in a pair while stealing three bases. Pitcher Matt Plasse earned the victory on the mound, tossing seven strong innings while allowing just two runs and striking out six.

Soon after the first win of the day, nine players were able to make the trip to Belchertown. What they lacked in numbers, Post 124 made up for in production. Two innings of three runs each combined with another complete game outing improved the squad from Westfield to 3-0.
Tim Kelleher earned the victory, shutting down the Belchertown offense by allowing just one run on three hits, while posting double-digit strikeouts (10). Post 124’s bats did just enough to secure the victory, posting six runs on an efficient six hits.
Up 3-1 after six innings, Sullivan continued his big day at the plate by blasting a three-run home run to right field, breaking the game open and extending the lead to 6-1. Connor Sas added an RBI and Sean Moorhouse, making his season debut, went 1-1 with two walks and a run scored, as well as one of six stolen bases for Westfield. In all, Post 124’s aggressiveness on the basepaths resulted in 15 stolen bases.
Post 124’s first home game of the season will be Tuesday in a makeup of Wednesday’s postponed game against Northampton at 5:45 p.m. on the campus of Westfield State University.
