SOUTHWICK – Seventh and eighth grade students made the transition to the new 7-12 school, and construction is underway on the west wing of Powder Mill School.
Southwick-Tolland-Granville Regional Schools Superintendent John Barry said students transitioned smoothly to the new school following the holiday break.
“Students and teachers did a nice job moving to a new building and getting right back to work,” said Barry.
There are still some kinks to work out, he added.
“We have ongoing issues to address, like the lack of bookcases and making sure technology is working,” said Barry.
The front of Powder Mill School is now fenced in and drop-off and pick-up is impacted. Barry said that a few weeks into the transition, all is going well.
“The busing seems to be going well,” he said. “We did have a lot of monitors in place the first week and we’re going to keep a small number of monitors in place and rotate them where needed.”
The committee student representative also reported a smooth transition at the school and noted that there are numerous signs throughout the building to help students navigate the school.
