Public hearing on subdivision scheduled for Tuesday

SOUTHWICK – The Planning Board will be holding a public hearing on Tuesday night at 7:15 p.m. to discuss the proposed subdivision on 454 College Hwy. The 110-acre property was last used as the Southwick Country Club, which was purchased by Fiore Realty on February 22 for $1.9 million.

The public hearing will start with R. Levesque Associates, the engineer for the subdivision, conducting a presentation of the project to show all of the details involved. After the presentation is finished, the Planning Board will ask questions before the hearing is opened up to the public.

A public hearing was scheduled for the last Planning Board meeting on April 17 but due to certain reasons it had to be moved to April 24. According to Town Planner Alan Slessler, people in the audience did have some questions about the development. Slessler is pleased to see that the community will have another opportunity to hear more about the plans for the subdivision and give their feedback.

“That’s the whole purpose of having a public hearing,” said Slessler.

Currently, the status of this project is in the preliminary review. Once the Planning Board is finished reviewing, they will get comments from various departments in town, including DPW, Board of Health, Conservation Commission, and police and fire.

“We value that input from the agencies in town,” said Slessler.
