OMG! It’s the cheerleader again! Just wanted to say congratulations and good luck in Seattle to the 13 year old all stars! Just another reason to be proud of our city! Along with that, I am proud of the way Westfield responded to the Torres family. I know they will never forget it.  One more positive comment. Can you stand it? Have you been to Stanley Park lately? Beautiful! I am there several times a week for different events or just to walk and admire what a wonderful job the staff does keeping the place pretty for us! And thanks Don for the “Love Westfield” buttons. I handed them out to all my friends and we wear them proudly! Signed, The Cheerleader

Hi. This is in regards to the person calling in about the homeless people taking over at Stop & Shop. I was just wondering if he walked over with his grocery cart and offered the guy some food. The jerk’s probably never been homeless himself.

Good morning. I just wanted to let everyone know in the vicinity of Westfield, Southwick, and any of the surrounding towns, if you have any kind of addiction there is a Bible-based addiction program at Ponder’s Hollow Road at Pioneer Valley Baptist Church. I’ve been going for a couple of weeks now and I just wanted to let you know that the women and men are very helpful to all those who are in need. I just want to encourage everyone out there who has an addiction that you are not alone. There are many of us who deal with addictions like drinking, cigarettes, street drugs or even pain medication. These are all some things that can be helped by God loving you. I just wanted to let you know that you have a family that would help you dearly with any endeavor as far as getting sober, clean, and keeping that way. God bless and have a good day.

I read where they’re trying to have anyone on welfare, housing, state aid, food stamps, and so on and so forth, to have mandatory drug testing in order get help from these agencies. I think it’s a wonderful idea. There are so many people getting money from the state and using their EBT cards inappropriately. I know there are quite a few markets in Springfield that take food stamps off a card and then will give you cash back for half the amount. I think it’s absurd for these places to be allowed to do this and get away with it. Look at all the drug dealers that have their EBT cards so they can get cash benefits or food stamps in exchange for illegal street drugs. I think it would be a good idea if everyone did this because the inappropriate use of state funded money is ridiculous. I have many friends who have told me of certain things they have done with their card and I think it’s an awful thing to take from the mouths of their children to pay for their street drugs. I, who have been sober for many years, have seen ridiculous spending of these EBT cards in the past and the future; it’s still going on. I hope something is done so an individual has to be drug tested in order to get any help from the state. Thank you, have a nice day.

In regards to the recent appointment of the Russell Chief of Police here are the facts. The town publicaly posted the position with a closing date of July 9, 2012. The town website states “the town of Russell is an Equal Opportunity provider and employer”. As of July 9, 2 people had applied. One with 3 yrs of part time police experience and no college degree. The other a retired state trooper with over 25 yrs of full time experience, that included assignment to the Russell barracks, and a B.A. in Criminal Justice. On July 10th, the very next day, 2 members of the select board appointed the applicant with the least experience and no college degree. The select board, at a great disservice to the townspeople, failed to conduct an evaluation process to determine the most qualified candidate prior to making the appointment. The candidate, who was not hired, was never interviewed and his references were never contacted. In fact, the 2 select board members had never even met the candidate. Yet somehow they were able to determine that he was not the most qualified person for the job. So much for Due Process and Equal Opportunity in the town of Russell!

Could we stop commenting about the policeman that was killed weeks ago? You cant make the paper print an apology on its front page about a comment that was blown out of proportion that was a reflection of a view about police overtime or sideline work like this officer chose to be involved in. You all are starting to make a legend out of a myth concerning this officer. A billboard with his picture on it? Bumper stickers? His name on the cab of a tractor trailer? I’m sure he was a great man but he was a man. Let go and leave the Westfield News alone.

I would like to say more and more people do not use their turn signals. More and more accidents happen because of not knowing what people are going to do, especially on the highway. PEOPLE THE TURN SIGNAL IS THERE FOR A REASON USE IT OR STAY OFF THE ROAD! Thank you.

To the reader’s comment in Monday’s PulseLine about unsubscribing from the paper, I’m sure the majority if not all of the readers agree with your sentiment that it was a terrible comment, but thank god you’re leaving. I’d rather drive off a cliff than be forced to read another abomination of literature from you. Keep it on your facebook wall, please.
