The Westfield Fair did a very good job this year. Everyday the parking lot was packed! Kudos for everyone involved. Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed with the demolition derby. Did anyone else notice the favoritism given by the promoter to his “home town friends”? It’s pretty pathetic when you watch everyone struggle with one car to try and win, and in the final heat the “home town friend” is allowed to bring in a fresh / new car. It was also very obvious that there was a rather large team effort. In years prior, the promoter would go out of his way to discourage this kind of activity, but not this one. He encouraged it. What a disappointment…

In the article about sewer lines coming in Southwick, why don’t you continue the story on how much each household will have to pay to connect? I am sure besides me there are other people who cannot afford these large bills being passed down to us on something I do not want.

Downtown Westfield is beginning to look great… BUT a lot of the times we see numerous children abusing the areas. They are doing tricks on their bikes, skateboards, scooters, etc. In fact the other day a young teenager jumped into the fountain at the rotary. I’m sorry but I feel that this has to stop, it is going to ruin all the improvements to the city.

Hi. On Sunday at the park there was great music, a great crowd, and we had a great evening. Everyone seemed to enjoy the Eddie Forman orchestra and the Polish/American music. Hope you come back to the park again. Thank you.

I’ve been a resident on Meadow Street for about 30 years. The other day I was walking with my grandchildren and noticed how the Westfield Food Bank has made a nice office for themselves. That is wonderful but all I see are the bums sitting on the steps drinking beer. The person who owns the old Westfield Hotel has done such a nice job with that place; it’s so nice and so clean and they keep the bums away. Whoever that person is, all the power to him.

Hi. My friend and I went to the Proud Chef on College Highway in Southwick the other night and a delicious dinner. I just wanted to let everyone know that we have great restaurant right here in our own back yard. The food was great and the service was terrific. Thank you.

Alright. You must think we’re stupid voters out here. In Friday’s Westfield News: “United States Representative Richie Neal stays informed by reading The Westfield News.” Never been informed before by The Westfield News but now that he wants to be the U.S. Representative from Westfield he’s informed and now he reads The Westfield News? Come on guys, give us a break. We, the voters, are not stupid.

Hi. I’m referring to Saturday’s, August 18, PulseLine regarding the person who called in about dress codes and uniforms. I agree 100 percent. I live near the high school and see the girls and boys walking to school everyday. The boys pants are hanging down below their waste and the girl’s pants are so short and their tops are so low, they may as well just go to school in their underclothes. I agree 100 percent… Uniforms for all schools. Thank you.

I suggest you continue using the Granby, Conn., dog park since you love it so much. In the beginning the organizers said they would pay for and upkeep a park, all they needed was a place. Last I read they are willing to “help” with the cost. Next thing you’ll know is that they want the city to clean and maintain it. Enough is enough. We the taxpayers are drained.

A dress code for all city schools is a great idea. Not necessarily uniforms but professional attire. Torn jeans, short shorts, flip-flops and pajama bottoms are disgusting. And the boys that wear their pants hanging down will someday have back, hip and leg problems because of the way they have to walk so their pants don’t fall off.

Southwick Selectmen: I don’t know who is in charge of signs around your town. You must have rules for sizes and where they can be put up but then again maybe you don’t. Driving around your town I see signs on every street corner and attached to homeowner’s fences advertising business. Everywhere you look in the town of Southwick there are ugly-looking signs. Like I said, I don’t know who’s in charge but you might want to ask them to take a ride around town and do something about it. You pass laws but you don’t enforce them…
