Please be advised that Governor Patrick has ordered that the United States flag and the Commonwealth flag be lowered to half-staff at all state buildings from sunrise until sunset today in honor of U.S. Coast Guard Seaman Apprentice Chad Kierstead of Plymouth, Massachusetts who died on August 21, 2012. This gubernatorial order applies to: 1. The main or administration building of each public institution of the Commonwealth, e.g. town and city halls. 2. Other state-owned or state-controlled buildings. 3. All state military installations.

In regards to the Wednesday 8-22-2012 article, the Russell CCR does not control the Russell Select Board. The select board has only one member currently on the board. The chairmen of the board in fact will be up for reelection next May and is now under fire from the Russell CCR because they are afraid of him. They have said that because he hasn’t shown them any support and they do not know his views regarding the Biomass issue that they want him gone. Well, in this person’s opinion, they better try hard because he appears to be a one-person board with no help. One member is new and to date has not got involved with the exception of the recent police chief appointment and the other person does things like parade or picnic planning that are not conditions of her job.  She is also guilty of this chief appointment. For the record I want to make it clear our chairman of the board did not make this appointment. He apologized at their next meeting after the appt. that he was out for health reasons. I just want the chairman to see if he reads your paper that not everyone is blaming the whole board. A lot of the time people play the blame game to the whole board and in his case I do not want this to happen.  I believe that the town needs him to run again in the spring because again he is the only one that you see doing anything. It is rumored that he also is fed up of being a one-person board.

I hope Mestek is paying for the private police patrol guarding their parking lot from frustrated motorists. If the city is not being reimbursed for the officers’ time, why don’t they station the officer at the light to alleviate the congestion of northside residents’ just trying to get home? Sports are in session at the high school, adding to the rush hour back up on North Elm Street.  Another two years for drug store hill bridge to open.
