As a mark of respect for the memory of Neil Armstrong, I hereby order, by the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, that on the day of his interment, the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset on such day. I also direct that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same length of time at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations.  IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twenty-seventh day of August, in the year of our Lord two thousand twelve, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-seventh.  BARACK OBAMA

Please be advised that Governor Patrick has ordered that the United States flag and the Commonwealth flag be lowered to half-staff at all state buildings from sunrise until sunset tomorrow in honor of U.S. Army PFC Michael R. Demarsico II of North Adams who was killed in action in Afghanistan on August 16, 2012. This gubernatorial order applies to: 1. The main or administration building of each public institution of the Commonwealth, e.g. town and city halls. 2. Other state-owned or state-controlled buildings. 3. All state military installations.

Good morning. I’ve been waiting patiently to see our new water cannons on the bridges in action. Does anyone have any knowledge as to when they will be activated? I would like to see what they look like and what they will do for that general area. Could someone answer that question for me? Thanks. According to City Engineer Mark Cressotti, the issue with the water cannons is still being worked on. “There is no resolution yet,” he said.

Southwick DPW Superintendent: Why is it every time we call your office, we get no answer? My question for you, sir, is why isn’t the sidewalk along Depot Street, from the Rails to Trails back to the fire station, being kept clear of brush, trees and hedges. It’s overgrown and we’re walking in the road. It’s very dangerous. Could you see if you could do something about this, sir? Thank you. With regard to no one answering the phone, DPW Superintendent Jeff Neece said the issue could be that the DPW assistant is located in an office at Town Hall while he and other staff are located in the new building on College Highway and there has been no transition made as of yet for the assistant. He is not sure whose responsibility it is to take care of that sidewalk and will look into it. Generally, clearing of sidewalks is the responsibility of the property owner.
