I have been noticing in the last month or so donation boxes popping up in different areas of Westfield. Do we have an ordinance on where these can be placed? I am assuming that there is a rental fee being paid to the owner of the property? If that is the case we are going to have one on every block.
I am writing in response to the submission on 12/24 regarding “guns and mental health.” I found the submission offensive and without merit. As a mental health professional with a child with mental illness I was sickened by such a lack of thought around making such a broad sweeping generalization regarding whether we would want people in Westfield with mental health problems armed. Westfield has some of the best support services in the area for those with mental illness. Also, before making a comment such as this research your facts. The rate of mentally ill committing crimes is very low. I agree with your suggestion that we need more money for mental health services but your other comments indicate an ignorance that is hurtful to those struggling with mental illness and their families. I’m assuming you’ve never known someone with mental illness (which is almost impossible) or don’t struggle with it yourself.
Yes, when are we going to do wake up, with all these killings with semi-automatic weapons, and wake up and do something about all this? It’s all got to stop, with all these shootings. It’s all got to stop. We got to have stricter laws to stop this. This is getting more and more depressing hearing, every day, about people getting killed by theses guns. It’s all got to stop. We need stricter laws.
