Four pistols were used at the Sandy Hook Elementary School and the semi-automatic rifle was left in the trunk of Adam Lanza’s car? Are you kidding me!? Why, then, have we been deluded into thinking an assault rifle killed all those kids when it was some nut with pistols? I have also read where actors have replaced grieving parents also. How come this is all been kept so quiet by the press? This is certainly not the era I grew up in where Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein took on a sitting U.S. President. Your reaction, Westfield News? Seriously? How would you like us to react? It didn’t happen in our area and we know just as much about the event as you.

I read the editor’s note regarding the mayor’s plan to ask for money to refurbish the ball fields at the North Middle School. A few things occurred to me. First, why is public money being considered? Why wouldn’t we ask for sponsors to refurbish the fields? Second, how much refurbishing can be done in February and March, so it would seem we still need a plan for this coming year. Third, the little league has always been divided into two divisions, North and South. The South Field is impacted by the new school so why would North Middle be the choice for refurbishing fields (the Papermill fields are North division fields)? Why not refurbish the fields behind South Middle? With declining numbers for little league participation, I am sure traveling to the other side of town will not help bring more kids to the game. I hope the mayor rethinks his plan regarding location, and asks the community for help funding the improvements. When we can’t fund enough teachers to educate our children and the governor has stated that the state, like the federal government needs more money and must increase taxes, I think we need to start doing the responsible thing even if it is more difficult.

I read tonight that the town of Southwick plans to design and fix the detention basin on Lexington Circle. The article states that the developer has “washed his hands of it”. Are you kidding me? This detention basin was a problem from day 1. As I recall the developer was also suppose to plant a row of trees at the site of the basin. That was never done. Is this the same developer that was supposed to put sidewalks and streetlights in Pine Knoll years ago and never did? Does the town collect bonds from developers? If so, why are we releasing them prior to ALL obligations being met? I do feel bad for the abutting residents but when you bought that big house on the edge of that basin didn’t the thought of erosion and potential impact to the integrity of your home come to mind? Why is the town now responsible for fixing this problem and footing the bill??

Hi PulseLine, I just wanted to warn any of your readers that might be driving on the Carrington Road In Montgomery! Eight years ago the left side of this road washed out over a 100-foot drop to Westfield River below! For the past eight years we in Russell and Montgomery have tried to get the state to fix this road! The Carrington Road is the fastest link between our two towns, the only other road is Rte 112 in Huntington! Do you think it would eight years for the state to fix Rte 20 between Westfield and West Springfield if a lane along The Westfield River collapsed into the river? Last month a young woman from Montgomery lost control of her car near the washout. Her car plunged 40 feet down the mountainside before being stopped by a tree! This lucky tree saved her life, as her car would have ended on the C&S railroad tracks along the river at the bottom of the 100-foot cliff! This is a death trap caused by our states inaction! How can our state senator get millions of dollars from the state to widen Western Ave. or build a rail trail between Westfield and Southwick and risk life and limb of residents of Russell and Montgomery who use The Carrington Road??

Hey congratulations Westfield finally gonna check into the Western Ave. problems that have been hanging around for years. It’s too bad it had to take two accidents to realize it’s gotta be fixed. But taking all those trees down… there’s gotta be another way of, you know, figuring something out. There’s been an awful lot of trees taken down in Westfield. First downtown… it seems all over the place Mr. Knapik is cutting trees down. I think he’d have better luck moving out West working for a strip mine company cuz that’s all he’d have to do is clear property out and make it look flat and ugly. So, let’s hope that something can be done. Thank you.

Mr. Mayor: you have saved about $4,200, which represents five months councilors pay, due to ward two being without a councilor. Just how much longer do we have to go without representation?

Hi PulseLine, I’m just noticing a disclaimered comment from a 50-year old who thinks that its easy to hop in the car, assuming people drive, everybody, and has a car, ride to the library and learn how to use the Internet. Surely, we seem to be going that way, but it seems to be a shame that we will accept only one form of communication and many of us find it considerably easier to use the telephone. Thank you for putting it back in.
