Hello PulseLine, In reference to the comment regarding Susan Duffy embezzling money from the City of Westfield on (Fri. Jan. 4, 2012.)  According to the article in another newspaper Dec. 13, 2012 it states she started working for the city April 2005.  In 2011, city officials launched an investigation, which tells me from 2008 until 2011 $108,000.00 from the clerk’s office was unnoticed and nobody questioned this for 3 years????? Is she the only person working there??? Books are not audited at City Hall? What happened to the chain of command?  Pls. the person who answered all the concerns, you failed to comment on this pertinent question, that concerns me a lot. Three years this woman was stealing money from us taxpayers…Thank You Very Much For Your Reply

Good evening Southwick, I just read The Westfield News, which I enjoy, and noticed on the front page there is a picture of the sidewalks that are not shoveled in front of the IBS hardware store.  I’m wondering my Mr. Fred Gore, the chief photographer, didn’t walk across the street and take a picture in front of our selectman, Mr. Fox’s, flower store, where they weren’t shoveled.  Hunh? I wonder why he stayed on the other side of the street.  In fact, our chief photographer reports Mr.  Fox cleared his sidewalks.  An employee stated that they were snow-blown hours after each snowfall event in December,  before the snow could freeze and harden.

It just amazes me about the waste in the city of Westfield downtown with all the traffic lights.  I’m sitting at a light across from the Gas and Electric, coming up the road there’s one road, one lane, one lane, and there’s two traffic lights in front of me and “two no turn on red” signs.  What a waste! If you go downtown Westfield, by the circle or the green, whatever you want to call it, count the traffic lights.  There’s like 29 traffic lights.  If that’s not a waste, I really don’t know.  And plus, there’s a whole bunch of lights that are missing.  The posts are there, the columns are there and everything like that, but there’s no lights.  I just hope there’s a punch list for the contractor, and they come back and they finish the lights in the spring or something like that, cuz they didn’t do them this summer and they didn’t do them this fall.

I have a question, but as a resident of Ward 2 I do not have a councilor to ask.  So Mr. Berry, I hope you can help.  Please be a stand-in councilor.  DOMAS bought a home on State Street for $149,000 in 2011.  I believe I heard the council vote on $80,000 as the city’s portion of this purchase.  Why are we paying for this, and if it is required by some law, why are we paying the bulk of the cost? Finally, who owns this residence, and are real estate taxes paid on it? Thank you.

Yes, I just want to thank The Westfield News for allowing phone calls to be made again.  It opens up the PulseLine to all of us.  Thank you very much.
