The stupidity of some people just tries my patience to no end. The latest entry to the PulseLine was apparently praising former Chief Anthony Scott of the Holyoke Police department and insinuated he was tough on crime whilst others, such as judges, were not. Scott was a media buffoon constantly begging news channel to put him on television and many politicians sneered at his antics in private and called him “a joke, out of his league” which he truly was. That entry then went on to state how some 18 year old kid, who bashed in some kid’s teeth with a BB gun and was charged, was let out with no bail and was not incarcerated. I read that same story and it does seem like this 18 year old is some punk kid who committed a violent crime and must pay for his actions. However, again, as I’ve written or called in before on this subject, you don’t get punished for just being charged with a crime! You are not held on bail unless you’re a public safety threat, a flight risk, or have defaulted on court appearances previously. This is our system and, unless you plan to run for office and submit legislation to change the system, deal with it and don’t make asinine remarks. Suggestion: Maybe you should sit in the Westfield District Court during arraignment days to see how the system works. It is never too late to gain knowledge if you are interested enough to observe how things really go.
