Hi. Since The Born Loser lost, I’ve seen nothing funny in the colored comics but Saturday, July 20, Leigh Ruben’s “Rubes” about David and Goliath was thought-provoking. Thank you. Rubes has become a favorite of a couple of Westfield News staffers, as well.

Now I know why the Westfield Post Office has 35 parking spaces it’s for all those people stuck in line waiting for a single teller have someplace to park their cars.

Good morning! I was calling concerning the paving of roads in the city of Westfield. I wonder if you can find out the priorities of streets in the city that are going to be done this summer. I’d really appreciate it if you listed them in the newspaper. Thank you very much. Have a pleasant day. The list is still being finalized. The City is still waiting for chapter 90 funds to be released. Once the allocation is known, street projects will be announced.

My name is Judy Suprlock. I used to live in Westfield and now I live in Florida, and I’m up here on vacation and it just breaks my heart every time I see Cross Street Field and that’s a misnomer because years ago I was secretary on the board of directors and we changed the name to the Ralph E. Sanville Memorial Field and that’s what should be used in your newspaper when you’re talking about Little League at Cross Street. They are the south division. And there’s a lot of Sanvilles that still live in Westfield and I’m sure it bothers them every time they see Cross Street Field. So, if you could please check it out if you have to, but I’m telling you that I was secretary on the board of directors and that’s what we did. We renamed it the Ralph E. Sanville Memorial Field. Thank you. Over the past several years, coaches, players, fans, and we, at the newspaper, have gotten lax in referring to Ralph E. Sanville Memorial Field at Cross Street Playground as Cross Street Field. The reference to the ballpark as “Cross Street Field” appears to have caught on as an easier reference point for differentiating it between the Westfield South Little League’s home field at Cross Street from Westfield North’s home park, Kiwanis Field at Papermill Playground, especially come playoff time. We will do our best to include the field names in future stories.
