PulseLine, July 6, 2013

I’m reading the police logs on Wednesday, July 3, and for the life of me, I still can’t understand why, when somebody locks themselves out of their vehicle, a fire truck with two firemen is sent to them. Doesn’t anyone have AAA? Can somebody in the fire department answer this question? Maybe The Westfield News could ask one of them and they could respond in the PulseLine. Thanks. The policy of the Westfield Fire Department is to respond to locked vehicles that are running, which could create a fire hazard, or with animals or children inside, which could create a safety hazard.

Dear PulseLine, I feel very strongly about fishermen being shut out of The Westfield River and Russell Pond! I have been a fisherman for over sixty five years and believe that our M.D.F.W. have done an outstanding job of improving our fisheries. The fishing has become so good that selfish people want to keep fishermen out of our rivers and ponds! The men and women that buy fishing licenses pay a $5.00 fee each year to support land purchases. My answer to posting The Westfield River and Russell Pond is that we should petition the state Fish and Wildlife to buy land from this fund so that fishermen now and in the future can enjoy this wholesome sport! The skills a boy or girl learn fishing will provide them great value when they go to college. They did for me! Bill Hardie Russell Ma.

Yes, I was wondering, can somebody tell me if there is any decent road in Westfield? I think once we get a new mayor… this guy here Knapik likes to fight with the city council and waste time and money so hopefully we’ll get a new mayor who will do something and get us some decent roads. Thank you.

Hi! My comment is for Steve Dondley. I’m just wondering – are you a teacher and you’re protecting your 180 days on or your 180 days off of work, or your future pension? You sound like a teacher and you’re looking to save your backbone that way. Flaherty is just protecting future taxes and all the other future incomes and stuff like that. If you can’t be see behind that, write your stupid articles that don’t really reply or say anything to anything either. I don’t even know what you’re saying in your articles and I don’t believe anybody else does or sees past it. You’ve got to watch for the future of Westfield, too. That’s all. Bye.

Thank you. I was wondering when Dan and Don were going to go into the Walmart driving area and remove the bus stop that’s supposed to be there. Mary McGuinness just keeps sending in the tour buses and people are walking around waiting for it and there’s nowhere to pick up. Now we have the steam shovels, its gridlock… OSHA should be notified. Now we’re having Saturday the gridlock on Western Ave to get into the free fireworks. Have the cars pay a dollar and then the city can get some money that way. Thank you.

I hope you can get this in because in the PulseLine through the years they’ve been knocking Big Y all the time, so I would like to put something in there because that’s the only place that I go. I read in the July 4 newspaper about what a July 4th cookout would cost at the Big Y: $38.98 and Stop & Shop $40.50. Data was collected by the state Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation. You can’t find a better place to shop than the Big Y and for so many good reasons, including they are an American business. Thank you so much. Bye.

Southwick resident that lives at the corner of Powerdmill Road and Fernwood: I would appreciate you watering your lawn not the sidewalk. We try to walk every day for exercise. We have to get into the road because you water your lawn and you allow it to go onto the sidewalk. It’s dangerous for us to step into the road. Would you try to move your sprinkler onto your lawn? Thank you.

Thanks Westfield Politicians and Airport manager….I have to agree what with B’Shara’s did…It is hard enough to make a living in today’s economy and then the to come up with paying Tax on a Rented Property !! That is why when you rent taxes are included in the rent no matter what….You adjust the rent to take care of it by going in small increments …It is a shame that you just ruined another small business due to greed !! Every renter knows that yes, There is a need to go up on Rental Property to cover expenses at times but what the Town officials and the Airport Manager did here is Totally Wrong…..You could of gone up on the rents little by little each year and Both Businesses would still be there trying to make a living…And then to do what you did to the Self Storage Company after 30 years ….Raise his rent 200 percent from what I was told…What are you People doing to are small businesses in this Town ??? All do to Greed.. It is better to make a Quarter loaf of bread then No bread At all…Just one persons opinion!!! Here (https://thewestfieldnews.com/?p=4968) is Dan Moriarty’s story from November 24, 2012, when the airport adopted the lease policy, and Carl Hartdegen’s follow-up (https://thewestfieldnews.com/?p=55596) on Mr. B’shara’s recent claims.
