When the day comes that Westfield and Westfield State are rid of Dobelle, the first thing they should do is remove the banners that say “Westfield State: A Global Institution.” We now know that all of his rationales for his free-spending, lavish and luxurious ways on the taxpayers’ and donors’ dime were mere fictions, incuding his “game-changing” transformation of Westfield State into a “global institution.” Even with a college president of integrity and honesty that would be a questionable goal and assertion for a state college/university. When he first made the banners that said “Westfield, Est. 1838,” we should have known. He wanted to forcibly make the college reflect his glory, as if it were one of those other one-word shorthands for elite private colleges like “Williams” or “Smith.” Never mind how dumb it was in making it look like Westfield the city was founded in 1838. But those things, reality, never mattered to this guy. The entire college existed as a mirror for his wonderfulness. That trip to San Francisco, where it turns out he was sitting in the car outside while his underling dropped off junk mail, basically, is downright creepy to contemplate. It’s the beginning of the end for this guy, and the attack on the State Police isn’t going to help him any.

Canned Cat Food Drive on Wednesday, Oct. 2 from 10 AM to 2 PM at Wal-Mart in Westfield to benefit the Westfield Homeless Cat Project (WHCP). With the cold weather approaching, we are overwhelmed with homeless cats and kittens. We count of the generosity of community members to help care for them. Please help us to help them!
