After briefly reading the school committee’s contract approval, I would like to know. Who is the Assistant Superintendent of Schools and what qualifies this person to be this. What does this person make annually. After all my years of volunteering with our schools, I have never heard this and I would say that most people’s knowledge is in the infant stages compared to mine. Why do we need an Assistant Superintendent? Please get me an answer? There is currently no Assistant Superintendent position for Westfield schools. This position would be appointed by the Westfield School Committee, unlike Directors, who the Superintendent appoints.

As much as I feel it is ridiculous to be fined and not allowed to keep a few hens, the person who is upset should understand that he/she lives in a city that has stricter rules than other places. I live in Southwick with my husband and 10 happy “girls.” Perhaps relocating to a more chicken-friendly city or town could be an option for you.

Regarding the issue of the Puerto Rican flag, MA General Law Chapter 264 Section 8 was cited; “Whoever displays the flag or emblem of a foreign country upon the outside of a state, county, city or town building or public schoolhouse shall be punished by a fine of not more than twenty dollars”. However, the Supreme Court in De Lima v. Bidwell held that Puerto Rico was not a foreign country.

I changed this message around a little bit from what President Kennedy said. This message is for our current mayor who almost lost the election. If more people were willing to change he would have lost it. He can obviously see that people aren’t happy with his performance and our former president of Westfield State University. Ask not what the taxpayer can do for you, but ask instead what you can do for the taxpayer. Thank you.
