PVR shuts out Saints

The seventh-seeded St. Mary’s High School baseball team made a lot of noise in Division III this season with a talented squad, but yesterday No. 2 Pioneer Valley Regional silenced the Saints 3-0 in the tournament quarterfinals.
Junior Noah Parker recorded nine strikeouts and allowed one earned run for St. Mary’s. Saints’ Matt Plasse had two hits, and Anthony Garde and Greg Geiger had one apiece.
“They’re a very good team – we made a couple mistakes and they made us pay,” St. Mary’s coach Troy Collins said. “We put the ball in play, but their defense made every play, and they made a couple of double plays in key situations. We couldn’t get a hit when we needed it. But it was a good year.”
St. Mary’s finished the season 15-7. Pioneer Valley Regional improved to 16-5.

TOURNAMENT NOTES: The Westfield High School baseball and softball teams will host Division I quarterfinal games this afternoon at 4 p.m., following postponements yesterday. Southwick-Tolland Regional travels to South Hadley for a D2 baseball quarterfinal.
