Rams rise

SPRINGFIELD – Southwick continued its upswing, posting a third straight victory in a baseball game Monday at Blunt Park. The Rams took care of business, pummeling Putnam 16-4.
Eddie Martinez (2-for-5, run scored), Nick Kavrakis (2-for-4, 2 runs, RBI), Bart Shea (1-for-3, double, RBI), Tyler Orban (1-for-4, 3 runs, RBI), and Richie Alimberti (3-for-4, double, run, 2 RBI) led Southwick’s offensive outburst.

The Rams (5-7) pulled within two games of .500.

Indians top Gators
Ware 8, Gateway 1

Josh Webster (double, run) and Brett Bonenfant (walk, RBI) had the lone hits for Gateway.

Bombers edge Brownies
Westfield 2, Agawam 1

Westfield built a 2-0 lead, and staved off a late rally by Agawam at Bullens Field.
Aidan Dunn (2-for-3, walk, 2 runs) and Sean Moorhouse (1-for-2, 2 RBIs) led Westfield at the plate. Bombers’ Ari Schwartz (11 Ks) twirled a three-hitter.

Matt Masciadrelli (2-for-4, double, run), Shaun Gezotis (1-for-2, walk, 2 RBIs), and Jake Butler (1-for-3, double, RBI).

Keough Ks 12
Pope Francis 4, Gateway 0

Pope Francis pitcher Alexis Keough struck out 12 batters in a shutout of Gateway.
Erika Wolfe (2-for-3) Dana Britland and Angela Wright both doubled for the Gators.
Both teams finished with five hits apiece.

Bombers explode for 9 runs in win over Lancers
Westfield 9, Longmeadow 1

Powered by a six-run uprising in the sixth inning, the Westfield High School softball team defeated Longmeadow High School by a score of 9-1 at Russell Field. The Bombers (6-5) were led by Morgan Zabielski (three runs, double, triple), Hayley Moniz (three RBIs, triple), Brittany Kowalski (three hits), Casey Almeida (two hits) and Nicole Graves (two runs, RBI), as they collected 13 hits to Longmeadow’s five. The Lancers (6-5) had hits by Isabella Alexander, Ryanne Fournier, Katelyn Joyal, Kirtana Palreddy and Taylor Ditmar. Moniz pitched for Westfield and tossed a complete game as she allowed a run on five hits with six strikeouts.

Brittany Penland went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs, Emily Lachtara had a hit and scored two runs, and Emily Lachtara scattered six hits and struck out six batters.

Gentle, Bombers prevail
Westfield 19, Amherst 8

Zach Gentle had four goals and six assists in helping lead Westfield to a road victory.
Westfield’s Max Maggipinto (4 goals, 2 assists), Landon Reyes (5 goals), Chris Ward (2 goals, 1 assist), Ryan Metcalf (1 goal, 2 assists), Devlin Welch (2 goals), Kohl Lunardini (1 goal), and Nick Clauson (1 assist) contributed on offense.
Kohl Lunardini was outstanding on face-offs and ground balls for Westfield. Bombers’ goalie Alex Beauchemin made eight saves.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE
Bombers down Hurricanes
Westfield 12, Amherst 7

Hannah Jarvis and Grayce Juan scored three goals apiece in leading Westfield to victory. Jarvis also had one assist.
Westfield improved to 7-2 overall, 5-0 Valley League.

BOYS’ LACROSSE
Concord-Carlisle 8, Westfield 6

Noah Alter had a hand in half of Concord-Carlisle’s eight scores, netting a hat trick and assisting on another goal. Ben Kacher had nine saves.
Chris Ward (2 goals), Zach Gentle (1 goal, 1 assist), Max Maggipinto (1 goal), Landon Reyes (1 goal), Nicholas Clausen (1 goal), and Sullivan Webster (1 assist) contributed offensively for Westfield.
Bombers’ goalie Alex Beauchemin finished with 11 saves.
Westfield’s Mitch Weiss played stellar defense and was superb in transition, clearing the ball. Gavin Carzello, Kris Meneses, Zach Cree, Tyler Shrewsbury, and Dan Antonellis also delivered on the defensive side of the ball.
