Rawk Report: Outlaw Jamey Johnson at the Indian Ranch

Jamey Johnson

WEBSTER, MA – Jamey Johnson brought his brand of outlaw country music to the Indian Ranch in Webster Mass for a one off headlining show while out on the road opening up for Lynyrd Skynyrd’s farewell tour.   The beauty of this show, was that it fell on Johnson’s birthday.  The crowd tried to get some rounds of singing happy birthday in between songs.

Johnson has been around since his first release in 2006 and over this time has been a really loyal fan base.  The crowd that showed up on this Sunday afternoon was singing along to every song.

The set list for this show showcased his original songs along with a few covers from Waylon Jennings and a run of three straight from Tom Petty.  The set opened with High Cost of Living, followed by his very first single ever released The Dollar.  Johnson ran through a couple more originals before paying homage to the legendary Waylon Jennings with a cover of his song, The Door is Always Open.

In somewhat of a surprise, right in the middle of the set, Johnson paid tribute to Tom Petty by covering three of his songs, Southern Accents, Room at the Top and Mary Jane’s Last Dance.  All played flawlessly and sounded amazing with Jamey’s vocals.

Kelsey Walden

Johnson added a couple more covers from Tampa Red, It Hurts Me Too and Waylon Jennings You Ask Me To, then adding a medley of songs before closing with his original Give it Away.

Kelsey Walden opened the show for a quick 30 minute set of all originals.  Walden is an up and comer who is steadily gaining a lot of attention for her songwriting, singing and consistent touring.  New music on the way in the coming year.  Keep an ear out for it!
