UNCASVILLE, CT – Chicago Punk Rockers Rise Against brought their Mourning in Amerika Tour to the Mohegan Sun Arena on their North American tour. Rise Against considered a straight edge band has been around since 1999. Straight edge is a sub culture of punk rock where those involved refrain from alcohol, tobacco and drugs.
Rise Against is also touring in support of their 2017 release Wolves and in the middle of their second tour to promote it. The band played a lengthy set of 18 songs and included 2 encores. Their rabid fan base provided enough energy to last night.
With over eight releases to choose from, the band has a plethora of material to choose from for their sets. Some highlight songs of the night were Satellite, House on Fire, Megaphone and Savior which ended the night’s set before the start of the encores.
The first encore included People Live Here, Hero of War and Swing Life Away. After hearing the roar of the crowd demanding more, Rise Against came out for encore number two which included Make it Stop and Prayer of the Refugee.
Openers AFI aka A Fire Inside provided a 10 song opening set and laying the foundation for a rocking night. AFI was formed in 1991 and but did not achieve commercial success until almost ten years later with their year 2000 release, The Art of Drowning. Led by enigmatic lead singer Davey Havok, the band has a distinctive sound and also a really diehard fan base.
Some highlights of AFI’s set included Girl’s Not Grey, 17 Crimes, The Lost Souls and set close Miss Murder. AFI has been touring relentlessly over the past few years and their set proved how musically tight they are.
A great night with two rock bands who have been around for quite a while but still have such a loyal following. Although the bands have two different styles of music, they fit perfectly on this night!
