WESTFIELD – State Representative John Velis will be presenting an American flag flown over Kabul, Afghanistan to the American Legion Post 124 during a brief ceremony this weekend.
Velis, who just recently returned from a six-month deployment to the war-torn nation, had the flag flown over the U.S. and NATO Forces Headquarters on November 27th in honor of all Massachusetts veterans and service members.
“When I heard about the opportunity to have flags flown over HQ, I knew instantly that I wanted to bring one back to Westfield,” says Velis. “As a State Rep and Vice Chair of the Committee on Veterans Affairs, it is my job to represent all veterans living in the Bay State – this was just one more way of recognizing their service and sacrifice.”
The presentation ceremony will take place at 1 PM on Saturday, January 5th, inside the American Legion located at 38 Broad St, Westfield. All are welcome.
