RMV to again send out license renewal alerts

BOSTON (AP) — The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles will again start sending out notices alerting drivers when their licenses need to be renewed.
Registrar Rachel Kaprielian said the first notices will begin appearing in mailboxes this week.
Kaprielian said the registry ended the practice five years ago to save money when the state was going through a fiscal downturn.
She said the new program will be supported by advertising dollars.
The postcards will indicate if a driver is able to renew their license online at MassRMV.com or if they need to visit a branch.
A Massachusetts license is valid for five years. Every 10 years license holders need to renew in person.
There are 4.7 million active licensed drivers in the state. The RMV is anticipating sending out up to 92,000 postcard reminders monthly.
