WESTFIELD – Robert F. “Bob” Sawyer, 90, (1926-2016) passed away on Monday, July 18, 2016 at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. He was born in Chicopee to the late Edward and Mary Alice (Moynihan) Sawyer and was a graduate of Chicopee Schools. Bob served his country with the United States Army during World War II from 1944-1946 where he was stationed in Germany and France. After leaving the Army, he joined the Air National Guard at Barnes ANG Base where he was supervisor of aerospace ground equipment. He served there until his retirement in 1986 as a Senior Master Sergeant. Bob was a longtime communicant of St. Mary’s Church and a longtime member of the American Legion Post 124 in Westfield. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Lucille V. (Wirfel) Sawyer, his daughter Eileen (Shawn) Scully, his sons, Tom (Michelle) Sawyer and Mike (Debbie) Sawyer, seven grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, and many wonderful nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Maureen Goff in 1988 and by his sisters, Doris O’Hare, Margaret Bach and Ethel Healy and his brother Edward Sawyer. Many, many thanks and eternal gratitude to all the wonderful people on 3 North at the Soldiers Home. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at 10:30 AM in St. Mary’s Church, Bartlett St. Westfield, followed by Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Southampton Rd. Westfield. There are no calling hours.
