WESTFIELD – Robert G. Nelson, 85, of Westfield died Thursday, February 21, 2013 in a local nursing home. He was born in Concord on July 4, 1927 to Emery and Margaret (Christopherson) Nelson and was educated in Acton, MA.Robert was employed as a truck driver for Agway for thirty-five years retiring in 1992. He was a Massachusetts and New England Champion in the Tractor Tailor Rodeo and was a finalist in the Nationals. Robert was a young farmer and a volunteer fireman for town of Acton for over twenty-five years. He was a member of the Massachusetts Masons.
Robert was the widower of Dorothy M. (MacLean) Nelson who died in April of 2001. He leaves two sons, Stephen R. Nelson and his wife Rosanna of Brookfield, NY and Garry A. Nelson and his wife Gloria of Westfield; one brother, Allen Nelson and his wife Thelma of Acton; three sisters, Sonja Sheldon and her husband Charles of Errol, NH, Faith Nekitopoulos and her husband John of West Springfield and Cynthia Nelson and her husband Stanley of Citrus Hills, FL; three granddaughters, Andrea, Corrine and Angela and five great grandchildren, Alexsys, Dustyn, Hailey, Abigail and Camryn.
The funeral and burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are omitted.
