BLANDFORD – Roger Russell Herrick, 86, a longtime resident of this town, died March 26, 2013 at Noble Hospital. Roger was born in Westfield, the son of Louis W. and Laura A. (Ripley) Herrick.
He grew up in Blandford. He was a 1944 graduate of Westfield High School and a 1948 graduate of Western New England College with a degree in Accounting. Roger was a resident of West Springfield for 18 years, where he was a member of the Moose Lodge. He lived in Longmeadow for four years; finally relocating back to his parents’ home in Blandford in 1985.
He was employed as an Industrial Purchaser for the former Railroad Salvage, East Windsor, CT, retiring in 1991. Previously, he was employed as a purchasing agent for Dan Wesson Arms in Monson and Texon, South Hadley. Roger was a member of the American Bosch Travel Club. He was deeply devoted conservationist; an avid reader and gardener. He enjoyed sitting on the front porch of his home, enjoying the company of his neighbors who were so kind to him in his later years. He leaves three cousins, and his many friends and neighbors in Blandford.
A spring burial, graveside ceremony is being planned in the Hill Cemetery, North Street, Blandford where he will be laid to rest with his family. There will be no calling hours. Southwick Forastiere Funeral Home, Southwick, has charge of Roger’s final wishes.
