Roger A. Bush, Sr.

BushrogerRUSSELL – Roger A. Bush Sr., 88, of Russell died Monday, June 10, 2013 in the Holyoke Soldiers Home. He was born in Russell on March 10, 1925 to George R. and Beatrice (Leahy) Bush.
Roger graduated from Huntington High School in 1943 and was employed as a machine tender for Strathmore Paper Company for forty-six years retiring in 1987. He was a US Naval Veteran of WWII and was a member of American Legion Post 124 in Westfield, one of the founding members of VFW Post 6645 in Russell and the Huntington Lions Club. Roger enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.
He was the widower of Jean F. (Broski) Bush who died on April 2, 2008 after sixty-one years of marriage. Roger leaves two sons, Roger A Bush Jr. and his wife Linda of Russell, and Stephen W. Bush and his wife Valerie of Waynesville, NC; five daughters, Linda J. Consolini and her husband Donald of Southwick, Cheryl A. Dunn of Springfield, Brenda K. Scott and her husband Richard of Westfield, Maureen E. Napoles and her husband David of Huntington, and Jane F. Kearns of Lincoln, VT. He also leaves twenty-three grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild and three sisters-in-laws, Alice Bush, Isabelle Knowles and Audrey Sawicki, as well as several nieces and nephews. Roger was predeceased by three brothers, Robert, Donald and Gordon Bush; a sister, Marion Keay; a great-granddaughter, Birdie Newman-Long and a son-in-law James Dunn. The family would like to thank the Soldiers Home in Holyoke for their kind and loving care.
The funeral will be Saturday, June 15, at 11:00 a.m. at Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield. Burial with military honors will follow in Russell Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 500-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Roger’s memory be made to the Trustees Fund at the Soldiers Home in Holyoke, 110 Cherry Street, Holyoke, MA 01040.
