Roger L. George

CHICOPEE – Roger L. George, (82) of Chicopee, Massachusetts passed away after a short illness on January 27, 2023. Roger, also known as “George,” was born to Victor and Mary (Viele) George on December 31, 1940 in Westfield, MA. He attended Westfield High School, and was a PFC in the Signal Corps U.S. Army in the early 1960’s. When he returned to civilian life, he was a portrait photographer at Tooke Studios in Westfield, MA. He enjoyed photography, and went on to become a freelance photographer, primarily working with the Westfield Evening News and later returning to portrait photography.

He is survived by his first wife, Christine (Austin) George of Westfield, MA; his brothers Philip M. George and Harold George; his children Vicky (George) Weimer of Monson, MA, Melinda (George) Harold of Melbourne, FL, Victor George of Westfield, MA, Christopher George of Chicopee, MA and Charles George of Granby, CT; and his grandchildren Marlena Harold, Jennifer Harold, Justin Dunbar, Cecelia Harold, Damien S. George, and Polly M. George.

Roger was predeceased by his second wife, Dena Grimes; his parents Victor and Mary, and his siblings Robert, Leo, James, David, Donald, Alice, Elizabeth, Rosemary and Linda.

Aside from photography Roger loved genealogy and had traced his family roots all the way back to Wales in the 11th century. He wrote a comprehensive history of the family to share with his children and grandchildren. He also loved to travel to see his family, often visiting his siblings in New York, California, and Florida.

Roger asked that no services be held, but that the family hold a memorial cookout in the summer.
