Roland R. Avery

FLORIDA: Roland R. Avery, 83, of Edgewater, FL beloved husband of Carol (Cavicchi) Avery of 61 years passed away peacefully in his sleep after a brief battle with cancer on Friday, July 24th, 2020.

Born on December 27, 1936 in Montgomery, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Raymond and Celestia (Chapman) Avery. He lived in Montgomery for 58 years and raised his family there.

Roland served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged as Sergeant in 1958.

Roland worked at Stanley Home Products as a chemical compounder for over 30 years before retiring in 1998 then moved to Edgewater Florida where he enjoyed the fireworks and laser light show at Epcot many times throughout his final years.

Roland was a devoted Boston Red Sox fan and enjoyed playing bocce at Edgewater Landing where he was very active within the community where he also ran a small handyman service for several years. He was also very active with Alcoholics Anonymous and sponsored many people over his 46 years with the organization.

Roland is survived by his three children, Laura Theriault and her husband Leon of Enfield CT, Christopher Avery of St. Louis MO, Nancy Duffy and her husband Gregory of Chicopee MA along with five grandchildren, Daniel Avery, Melissa Tenczar, Kayleen Duffy, Alex Theriault and Jared Duffy. He also leaves his great-grandchildren, Joey, Irelynn, Emily and Jacob.

A memorial service was held in Florida where he resided for the last 22 years. Burial service with military honors will be held at Montgomery Center Cemetery on October 9th at 11:00 am.
