WESTFIELD – Ronald G. Cole, 90, of Westfield, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories with family, friends, and his community.
Born on October 9th, 1935, Ron was a lifelong resident of Westfield and a graduate of Westfield High School. Ron dedicated 42 years of service to Verizon, where he built lasting friendships. He was also a lifelong member of the Telephone Pioneers, continuing his commitment to service long after his retirement.
In addition to his beloved wife Kathryn, with whom he had a 68-year love affair, Ron is survived by his children, Ronald J. Cole and his wife, Ann Marie; Liane M. Howard and her husband, Dan; and Beth A. Reed and her companion, Anthony Arena. He also leaves his sisters, Jeannine Pease and Diane Ring and her husband, Dave; his special friends, Steve and Katy Brochetti; twelve grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, all of whom will cherish his memory.
He was predeceased by his parents, Rita and George Cole; his son, Michael A. Cole; and his godchild, Ann Pease.
Ron will be deeply missed by the many friends whose lives he touched, especially his weekly coffee buddies. He embraced life with enthusiasm and adventure. An avid skier, he continued skiing well into his 80s. He also loved walking his dogs through the woods, and spending time with those he loved. His warmth, quick smile, and genuine kindness left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
A devoted member of St. Peter’s Church in Westfield, Ron’s faith was an important part of his life. A Remembrance Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 8th, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church in Westfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF), or to a cancer support organization of the donor’s choice.
