Russell D. Baker

WESTFIELD – Russell D. Baker, 79, of Westfield died Monday, August 6, 2012 in Worcester. He was born in Westfield on January 8, 1933 to William and Helena (Lemanski) Baker.
Russell graduated from Westfield Trade School and was a US Naval Veteran of the Korean War. He retired from the Maintenance Department at Westfield State University in 1994 and prior to that worked for Columbia Bicycle in Westfield. Russell was an avid New York Yankees fan and enjoyed the beaches at Saco Maine. “In his younger years, he enjoyed playing country music with his friends and family. His quirky sense of humor and one liners will be greatly missed.”
He was the widower of Alice M. (Douglas) Baker who died on January 6, 2010. Russell leaves his children; Marie Fisk of Russell, Maureen Baker of Chester, Kelly Pelkey of Westfield, Donald Baker of Petaluma, CA, Jodi Baker of Westfield, Jerri Baker of Springfield, Lynn Baker of Westfield, and Heather Baker of Auburn, MA. He also leaves four grandchildren, Colin McGrady, Elizabeth Bartini, and Abigail and Gene Pelkey; two great grandchildren, Hailey and Tyler Bartini and two brothers, Mike Baker of Westfield and Paul Baker of Chicopee and a sister, Phyllis Dance of Wolcott, CT. Russell was predeceased by three brothers, Donald, Richard and William Baker and a sister, Doris Teodore.
The funeral will be Friday, August 10, at 12:45 p.m. from Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield with burial with military honors to follow in The Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
