Westfield- Ruth F (Aldrich) Cwirka, 90 (1925-2015) passed away peacefully Sunday September 20, 2015 at Governor’s Center in Westfield. Born January 31, 1925 to George and Flora (Labree) Aldrich, she was raised in Crescent Mills and Huntington, MA. She was a graduate of Huntington High School. Over the years, she worked at Savage Arms, WICO, U.S. Line, and Electrical Engineering in Westfield. She also worked on the family farm during part of WWII while her father was ill and brothers and sisters were over seas. She was well known locally as a hunter, getting more than 25 deer, 2 bobcats (for bounty), rabbits, raccoon, birds, and turkeys. She also loved fishing, hiking, snowmobiling, bird watching, picking wild edibles, and making maple syrup at their camp in Huntington. She had a wonderful garden and canned jars of vegetables, jams, and pickles. She was an excellent cook and accomplished knitter.
She was predeceased by her husband Benny in 2000. They shared a love of the outdoors. They traveled to Canada frequently. They also took fishing trips to Lake Champlain and a trip to Disney World.
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by 2 brothers, Richard (2010), Harold (1981), and 1 sister Hazel (1983); her sister-in-law Jeanne (Harold) (2014), niece Ellen Dale (Gamache) Hoppe (2015), and great nephew Brett Melius (2014).
Ruth is survived by her niece Darlene (Ronald) Brewster of Montgomery, nephew Brian (Maryann) Aldrich of Granby, MA, and nephew Siegie (Ellen) Hoppe of Chester, MA; as well as many great nieces and great nephews. Ruth’s family would like to thank the special staff at the Arbor’s of Westfield for their loving and compassionate care during her last years. She was truly happy living there and made many friends.
A graveside service will take place Friday September 25, 2015 at 1 pm in Norwich Bridge Cemetery, Huntington, Ma. The Robert E Cusack Funeral Home, Westfield, is entrusted with the arrangements
