Sales of single-family homes make huge jump

BOSTON (AP) — The number of single-family homes sold in Massachusetts jumped 25 percent in January compared to the same month in 2015, and weather appears to have played a factor.
The Warren Group said Tuesday that 3,422 homes were sold across the state last month, compared to 2,736 in January 2015.
Cassidy Murphy, the organization’s editorial director said “the weather was much more conducive to doing business than last year at this time.”
The Massachusetts Association of Realtors reported an 18 percent jump in closed sales year over year, and said the 3,237 homes sold last month were most in January since 2004.
The groups use slightly different numbers in their calculations.
Both organizations said median prices held steady last month compared to January 2015.
Condominium sales also jumped significantly.
