Sally Parry

BEVERLY – Sally (Conner) Parry, age 88, of Wenham, passed away on May 5, 2020 at Care One at Essex Park in Beverly. Born in Springfield, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Justine (Snyder) Conner of Westfield. She was also predeceased by her husband Lt. Col. Thomas Parry of Holyoke and her siblings Virginia Willoner and R. Rossiter Conner.

After graduating with honors from Westfield High School in 1949, Sally earned an Associate Degree at Colby Jr. (now Colby Sawyer) College in New Hampshire. She was employed as an executive secretary, a travel agent, a substitute teacher, and a correspondent for The Salem Evening News (as Sally Leighton)  and for The Westfield Evening News (Sally Robinson) and other newspapers in towns where she lived. She also volunteered her leadership and organizational skills in a variety of benevolent organizations.

Mrs. Parry  was an active person who was happiest when busy and spending time outdoors. For many years, she was an involved member of the First Church in Wenham, and for much of her life, she enjoyed horseback riding, tennis, figure skating, skiing, Cribbage, Scrabble, and Bridge.

Sally is survived by her children: Sherry Ranta of Newburyport; Alan Mahar and his wife Cindy (Vitale) Mahar of Hamilton and David Leighton of Westfield; grandchildren: Brooke (Ranta) Holland; Curtis Ranta; Tana Mahar; and Alan Mahar, Jr.; great-grandchildren: Landon, Lyla, and Mason Holland and Sadie Mae Blessington; nephew Walter Rodgers and nieces Amy Landis and Carol Wolfe.

Due to the current precautions for Covid-19 a Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sally’s memory may be made to Care Dimensions Hospice, 75 Sylvan Street, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
