Art exhibit applicants sought

SOUTHWICK- The Southwick Cultural Council is pleased to announce that they are now accepting applications for their 14th annual juried art exhibition.
Created in 1999 by the Southwick Cultural Council, the exhibition is open to local artists who are interested in featuring their fine arts, crafts such as sculpture and pottery, and photography on all subject matter and media. Originals, limited editions and open editions are allowed, as well. In addition, student work is always accepted.
According to Chair of the Southwick Cultural Council Susan Kochanski, there usually is a space limit of about 40 artists, although it varies from year to year. In the past, the Council has seen up to 80 applicants.
Each year, applications are judged by a different jury. This year the jury consists of a painter, a sculptor, and a photographer, all three of whom are local artists.
Kochanski added that this exhibition is a flagship event for the Council and that many refer to it as a tradition. In addition, over a thousand people visited the art exhibition last year, and the Council is expecting as many, if not more, this year.
Although the Southwick Cultural Council is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council and receives funding from them, the annual art exhibition is self-funded.
The art exhibition will be held at the Southwick Town Hall on May 4 and 5. Interested applicants can pick up an application and guidelines at the Southwick Town Hall, the Southwick Public Library, or the Agawam Public Library. Applications can also be downloaded from the town website. All applications must be submitted no later than March 6.
For any questions regarding the application or guidelines, contact Kochanski at 413-569-0946 or by email at [email protected]. The Southwick Cultural Council also meets on the third Thursday of each month at the Southwick Town Hall at 7:00 p.m.
