School Committee seeks applicants

SOUTHWICK- The School Committee and Select Board will appoint a new School Committee member to replace Commissioner Kyle Boyer who recently resigned.

Southwick Tolland Granville Regional School District Superintendent Jennifer Willard said that those who would like to put their name in the running should submit a resume and letter of intent by 4 p.m. on Dec. 2. After that, the Select Board and School Committee will have a joint meeting on Dec. 10 during which applicants will have a public interview.

The joint meeting will then move to a vote. A simple majority of the Select Board and School Committee is required for a candidate to be selected.

As of noon on Friday, Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent Amy McLaughlin said that there had not yet been any applications submitted.

Boyer resigned from the committee Nov. 5. Willard said that Boyer cited increased responsibilities at his full time job as the reason for his resignation.

Boyer had just joined the School Committee in May. The term for each member is three years, so whomever fills Boyer’s seat would be in the position for another two-and-a-half-years.

School Committee member Amy Stack was appointed by the same process.
