WESTFIELD – The United Church of Christ, Second Congregational in Westfield recently awarded scholarships to two young members of its church family. Receiving scholarships during the church’s Children’s Sunday worship service on June 10 were Nick Rogers and Jackie Decoteau. Nick is a 2017 graduate of Westfield High School and a second-year student at Springfield Community College. Jackie graduated this year from Westfield High and will be attending Holyoke Community College in the fall.
The Church awards scholarships annually from two funds, one established by the late Ferne E. Terwilliger, the second by Church members and friends in memory of The Rev. Roger C. Fischer. Ms. Terwilliger, a long-time member of the church, created the Terwilliger fund after retiring as a Westfield teacher. The Fischer fund was established to honor Roger Fischer who led the congregation as Pastor from 1967 until his untimely death in 1981. Roger was an active member of the Westfield community and highly regarded Pastor of the church. His widow, Harriet, continues a member of the church.
