Select Board reviewing Lieutenant position

SOUTHWICK – At Tuesday night’s Select Board meeting, the board discussed the process to hire the next Lieutenant of the Southwick Police Department. Since they have copies of the last internal posting for Lieutenant, there aren’t many changes that need to be done to the job description.

The search for the next Lieutenant is due to the hiring of Kevin Bishop as the next Chief of Police as he was previously the Lieutenant. At the Select Board meeting on January 2, the board voted in favor of selecting Bishop as the Chief.

Bishop’s promotion to Chief was a result of current Chief David Ricardi announcing his retirement in June. Ricardi has been the police chief since 2013.

The Select Board will now focus on having the job description reviewed by town counsel so they can officially post the open position. In most cases with Southwick Police positions in the past, the Select Board has posted the position internally first. This action item has been continued to the next meeting on Tuesday.
