PITTSFIELD – The St. Mary High School boys’ ice hockey team was already down three top offensive players to begin the game, and found themselves down two more early on. The Saints were up to the challenge, prevailing 6-3 over Taconic at the Pittsfield Boys & Girls Club Saturday.
Before leaving the game with an injury, Reilly Siart scored twice, and assisted on Aaron Blanchard’s first goal of the season to give the Saints a 3-0 lead early in the second period.
From there, every time Taconic scored to inch closer, St. Mary would answer back and regain a three-goal advantage. Charlie Bonatakis scored late in the second for the Saints’ fourth goal. Quinn Powers and Tanner Hart added third period scores to cap the six-goal outburst, the Saints’ highest total of the season-to-date.
On the defensive end, Matt Brady turned away 33 Braves’ shots, while Matt Wurster paced the steady play to help move the Saints over .500 on the season at 2-1.
