Sister Meluch Retires after 30 years

On Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, St. Peter’s and St. Casimir’s Parish held an appreciation and retirement party for Sister M. Marcella Meluch, OSF. She spent 30 years serving the Parish as Director of Religious Education.

Sister is a native of Westfield and attended both Ashley Street School and St. Mary’s High School. She graduated high school from Mount Assisi Academy in Pittsburgh in 1947 and entered the Sisters of St. Francis in Pittsburgh in 1946. Her first profession of vows was in 1948 and her final vows were taken in 1953.

She received a BS in Education from Mt. Mercy College in Pittsburgh and Masters in Library Science from Villanova University. She also studied for a year at Regina Mundi in Rome. She served her Community as a local minister and Principals of Schools for Bethlehem Province in Pennsylvania and, in addition, as Provincial Minister for and as a member of the General Council in Rome. She also taught schools in PA, NJ, WV and Oregon.
