WESTFIELD – Dr. (Coach) Steve Sobel, well-known basketball coach and trainer, announces he will take on a limited number of new basketball students for individual lessons. Players in grades 4 and up to grade 12 are eligible-girls and boys.
Sobel is the head coach of the Springfield SLAMM, one of the top men’s pro am teams in the Northeast that features players such as Tremont Waters, LSU point guard, Jeremy Lamb of the Charlotte Hornets, J.R. Lynch, point guard for the University of Hartford and many other pro players, including several from top leagues in Europe and elsewhere. He is a prominent shooting coach and also provides counseling and direction to aspiring players as they focus on colleges that they might wish to play for and apply to.
Sobel has had several Division III players of the year play for him as well.
The SLAMM are also focusing on bringing in more top high school stars for the upcoming season to blend in with his veteran core. Lessons last anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour.
Parents are encouraged to watch the lessons and become part of the “success formula.”
Sobel is a former award-winning principal and special needs director and works with players of all needs and ability levels and has high expectations for their academic life and grades. He also gained notoriety as Springfield’s first American Basketball Association coach two years ago, directing the Springfield STING to an unbeaten home record.
Sobel will also be conducting several basketball clinics in Western Massachusetts and Connecticut for boys and girls. He will also have a select shooting clinic as well.
