Sophie A. Killips

WESTFIELD – Sophie Anne Killips, 85, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2020, at Heritage Hall West Nursing Home in Agawam MA. She was born in Westfield to the late Ignacy and Mary Zawada. Sophie attended and graduated from the Cooley Dickinson Hospital school of Nursing in 1956. She began her nursing career at her alma mater Cooley Dickinson Hospital after graduation. After taking time off to raise her children, she began working at Noble Hospital in 1973 and worked for over 30 years in the nursing department retiring in 1997. Sophie worked in many different departments throughout her Noble hospital career ending as the head nurse in the emergency room. She absolutely loved and respected all of the staff she worked with and spoke with pride about their work together. She spent her retirement wintering in Florida, spending more time with friends and family especially her beloved grandchildren. Sophie loved to attend their sporting events and was their biggest fan. She will be fondly remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, auntie, mentor and friend.

Sophie is survived by her daughter Kathleen (Killips) Ludorf and her husband Ronald of Southwick, MA. Her son Michael and his wife Lisa of Westfield. Sadly, she was predeceased by her husband Jack and two sons, Paul and Patrick. She leaves her loving grandchildren, Jessica, Cole, Andrew, Ryan, Jackie, Matthew and one great grandchild Penelope. She also leaves her sister Bernice (Zawada) Morrissey, predeceased siblings Joseph, Henry, Walter, Julie, Helen, Mary and Anne. Sophie’s family wishes to thank the staff at Heritage Hall West for their care and comfort extended to her. We would also like to thank the many friends she had at the American Inn in Southwick for their love and support. Because of the challenging times we find ourselves in, services for Sophie will be private. Her family knows that you all loved her and in return she loved you back.
