SOUTHWICK – The Southwick Civic Fund is hosting their 7th Annual Thanksgiving for All Dinner. On Thanksgiving, residents from Southwick, Granville, and Tolland have the opportunity to sit down for a free meal at Moolicious Ice Cream. The Southwick Civic Fund is a non-profit organization that holds events to give back to the local community.
Joe Deedy, owner of Moolicious and President of the Southwick Civic Fund, has said that 35 people have already reserved their spot for a meal at Moolicious.
For Deedy, the beauty of the Thanksgiving meal is having complete strangers sit down with each other and enjoy the holiday.
“It’s wonderful, hopefully we can sit with the friends we made last year,” said Deedy.
The Thanksgiving meal at Moolicious starts at 1 p.m. for anyone who wants to eat at the restaurant. If people are interested in having a meal, but can’t or don’t want to eat at Moolicious, they can sign up to have a meal delivered to their home or place of residence. For the individuals that are eating at the restaurant but don’t have transportation to get there, Select Board Clerk Doug Moglin will be driving a shuttle bus to pick people up. Deliveries of the meals will start around 11:30 a.m.
Deedy and his volunteers have cooked for about 200 people each year and they are always in need of donations. He noted that the community has already responded by donating five turkeys and ingredients for green bean casserole.
Donations items still being sought are: Turkeys, Stuffing, Onions, Celery, Cranberry sauce, Gravy, Potatoes and Butter.
“People are remembering, which is a wonderful thing,” said Deedy.
Donations can be dropped off at Moolicious, Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m., and also on Saturdays and Sundays from Noon until 8 p.m.
