SOUTHWICK – Police began searching for a 57-year-old man Police Chief Kevin Bishop described as “despondent” around 3 p.m. Thursday.
“The subject walked into the woods behind 247 College Highway,” Bishop said.
Southwick Police were assisted in the search by the Massachusetts State Police helicopter.
“Westfield also sent an officer with a drone and a canine was brought in from Longmeadow,” Bishop said.
Southwick Police continued the search into the evening, calling it off for the night around 8:30 p.m.
Bishop said police planned to reconvene the search Friday morning unless they hear from the family that the man has returned home.
