SOUTHWICK- The Town of Southwick reported 26 new confirmed COVID-19 cases this week in the wake of the Christmas and New Year’s Holidays.
The total number of cases in Southwick since the beginning of the pandemic now stands at 310. Health Director Tammy Spencer said that 61 people in the town were in quarantine as of the morning of Friday, Jan. 8.
Spencer said that holiday gatherings “certainly contributed” to many of the cases reported this week. There are no major clusters throughout Southwick, but there have been many cases of whole households becoming infected.
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported on Jan. 7 that Southwick’s percent-positivity from Dec. 20 to Jan. 2 was 8.29 percent. That number could increase as the data from the full week after New Years is published by the DPH.
Massachusetts recorded its highest single-day total for new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Jan. 7 with 7,136 exactly one week after New Year’s Eve.
