Southwick resident charged in Suffield

A Southwick man has been arrested in Suffield, Conn., on a charge of sexual assault.
Suffield Police Officer Justin Fuller said in a press release that Wayne C. Szczepanik, 42, of 9 Fenton Drive, Southwick, was reported to have sexually assaulted a Suffield resident on the night of April 10, 2012.
Fuller reports that, after a month-long investigation, a warrant was sought and issued by Enfield Superior Court for Szczepanik’s arrest on the charge of sexual assault in the first degree.
He said that Szczepanik came to the Suffield Police Department about 5:40 a.m. on May 12 to surrender to police.
He was processed and subsequently released on a $100,000 surety bond pending a hearing in the Enfield court on May 22, Fuller reports.
The Judicial Branch web site, the official website for the Law Libraries of the State of Connecticut, reports he will be arraigned on that date.
Szczepanik was charged with first degree sexual assault under Connecticut General Statute 53a-70. Under the statute, the crime is a Class A felony if the victim is younger than sixteen and the perpetrator uses or threatens force or if the victim is younger that 13 and the perpetrator is more than two years older than victim. Otherwise, the offense is a Class B felony.
