Southwick Schools audit favorable

SOUTHWICK – The annual audit of the Southwick-Tolland-Granville Regional Schools was presented last night during the regional school committee meeting.
Richard Sullivan of Powers and Sullivan said the audit results were very favorable.
“You’ve got an unmodified opinion, which is the best opinion you can get,” said Sullivan.
Sullivan said improvements were made over last year and there were “no internal control issues to report.”
Sullivan said there were no adjustments proposed to the department’s ledger, an indication that the numbers were accurate.
Powers and Sullivan reviewed the schools’ cash, receivables for the Massachusetts School Building Authority, assets, Other Post Employment Benefits and debt.
Sullivan noted that the department keeps a tight budget.
“You don’t have a lot of wiggle room,” he said.
The department’s two stabilization funds – one general fund and another for health – were also reviewed, as were capital assets.
“Capital is the biggest component,” Sullivan said, citing $25 million for the school project, the purchase of three new buses, and improvements at Granville Village School.
The district’s debt services topped out at 7.5% of its budget.
“To me, that’s a good number,” Sullivan said.
