Southwick student interns and mentors recognized

SOUTHWICK –  The Business Education Alliance (BEA) Advisory Board announced that the annual Appreciation and Recognition Reception, acknowledging Southwick student interns and their mentors, will be held Wednesday, April 12, at Southwick Regional School from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.  Twenty-one (21) students and mentors will share their experiences as participants in the Diversified Learning Experience program during the academic year 2016-2017.  The BEA will also hold its annual drawing of prizes, which supports the BEA scholarship fund.    Refreshments will be served.

In addition to student/mentor awards, recognition will be bestowed upon the Baystate Springfield Educational Partnership, for the Brian R. Johnson Outstanding Business/Organization Award in recognition of continued support of local students with job shadowing opportunities and internships.  The BEA Staff Professional recognition will be bestowed upon STGRSD Technology Department members John Grimaldi, Lorie Tencati, and Momoh Kamara for their outstanding leadership in providing both job shadowing and internship experiences for our high school students.

The BEA works in conjunction with the River West School-to-Career Partnership and is also a part of the Massachusetts School-to-Career system.  In its 22nd year, the program has successfully admitted nearly 1,000 students.

According to several participants, the program’s success is based on three things – the supervision and assistance of Career Facilitator Maryanne Margiotta, the student’s personal interest and goals, and the business mentor’s support of the student.
