State Rep. John Velis to review legislation relevant to veterans

HOLYOKE – State Rep. John C. Velis, of Westfield, 4th Hampden District, will review current and pending legislation relevant to veterans today from 6-8 p.m. at the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home, 110 Cherry S., Holyoke.
Velis, a U.S. Army captain who served in Afghanistan, is a member of the Joint Committee on Veterans and Federal Affairs. His talk will include discussion of the VALOR ACT II, as well as training opportunities, housing preferences and retirement benefits for veterans. He will also answer questions.
The event is part of the Vet2Vetprogram, a collaboration of Holyoke Community College, the Springfield Vet Center, the U. S. Department of Veteran Affairs office in West Springfield, the Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke, Veterans Outreach into Community Action, Soldier On, Veterans Inc., and Employment Support of the Guard and Reserve.
